The best way to pass the dog days of the NBA season is to think about the future.
That’s why I wasn’t surprised when I put out the call Tuesday on Twitter for Warriors mailbag questions, and received plenty of queries about Golden State’s upcoming roster decisions. Here are my responses:
@gswcowboy: Who are viable replacements for KD this summer?
If Kevin Durant signs elsewhere this summer, the Warriors can’t do much in the immediate term. Golden State will almost definitely be capped out for the 2019-20 season, which leaves it to try replacing Durant with someone on the mid-level exception.
It’s still way too early to guess which free agent small forwards would fall into that range. But just for fun, here are a few possibilities: Kent Bazemore, DeMarre Carroll, Bojan Bogdanovic and Harrison Barnes.
It’s also quite possible that the Warriors use their mid-level exception on a center, and replace Durant with Alfonzo McKinnie, Andre Iguodala and someone on a minimum deal. Damian Jones is currently the only center on Golden State’s roster for next season.
